The goal of Alice Birney Elementary School, an IB World School, is to teach students to demonstrate an understanding of the world around them, politically, socially and culturally. We expect our students to be active, curious and confident learners, and we expect them to be able to contribute to the school climate of tolerance, empathy and integrity. We develop and nurture students to use knowledge to promote peace, tolerance and understanding of other cultures in their daily endeavors. Our goal is to send inquiring, independent, and caring young people who act to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect on to middle school. Our aim is to prepare children to become adults who are active, compassionate and peaceful citizens of the world community.
“Think globally, learn locally”
We are aligned with the mission of the International Baccalaureate Organization, which is:
“To develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. [The IBO] encourages students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right”.
