The Alice Birney Elementary PTA and Friends of Alice Birney Elementary (FOABE) look forward to another great year ahead as we welcome back our students, parents, teachers, staff members and administrators for the 2016-17 school year.
Whether you live in University Heights or send your children from outside of the neighborhood to attend Birney, you know that Birney is unique for its highly prized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP). The mission of the program is: “To develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. [The IBO] encourages students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right”.
Our parent organizations (PTA and FOABE) are volunteer-led organizations that dedicate their time to supporting and enhancing the mission of our school. Through our fundraising efforts over the school year, we sustain our Art, Spanish, Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (Garden) programs as well as field trips, assemblies, classroom supplies, and family events so that ALL children receive an enriched educational experience at our school.
We welcome all parents, grandparents, and other community members to get involved with these efforts in any way you can. Our goal continues to be for ALL parents in our community to feel they have a voice and know that every contribution is not just appreciated, but vital to the continuation of this invaluable experience for our children!
Being able to reach our whole community with our communications is key to our success. Here are a few ways you can stay informed and get involved:
- PTA Website – birneypta.com
- FOABE Website – friendsofalicebirney.org
- Birney Buzz – weekly distribution through child’s classroom
- Birney eNewsletter – weekly email distribution – To begin receiving the eNewsletter, please go to either the PTA or FOABE website (shown above) and find the sign-up form in the margin. Enter your email address here.
Our parent organizations host many events throughout the year, and our collective participation and contribution is what helps make this amazing community thrive. We strive to practice the same IB Principles our children learn each day in school. And so, with open-mindedness and inclusiveness, we invite YOU to make your mark so be a risk-taker and GET INVOLVED!
Here’s to an amazing year!
Cheers,
Beth & Indrani
