Did you know that funding for Birney’s librarian, IB certification and teacher training, and “specials” classes — Spanish and art instruction — are NOT included in the school district’s budget allocation for Birney? Only successful fund raising efforts will preserve the things that make Birney a successful, high achieving school that teaches to the whole child. All totaled, these programs cost $75,000 per year or $150 per student.
Birney’s non-profit educational foundation, Friend’s of Alice Birney Elementary is hosting Birney’s 5th Annual Jog-A-Thon to raise $25,000 to help pay for these programs in the 2012-2013 school year. Just $50 per student will help us reach our goal.
The Jog a Thon will be held on March 16th. For the next two weeks, please help your child collect donations with the sponsor forms sent home last week. You have until March 19th to submit your collected donations to be eligible for prizes.
