Better than a thousand days of diligent study

One of the best decisions in my life, without doubt, has been to become an active supporter of our most precious resource, our children. After careers in the U.S. Navy and the private sector as a Real Estate Associate, my passion for kid success transitioned to becoming a teacher. The continued memories of children becoming empowered by their achievement at school, will always put a smile on my face, no matter where I am or what I may be doing in the future.

Having had opportunities to teach at a handful of SDUSD schools, under the mentorship of outstanding principals, Ms. Amanda and Birney continue the expectation that ALL kids can learn by providing a positive and nurturing environment to facilitate their educational experience. In addition, being an International Baccalaureate Magnet school adds to the overall learning of our kids by exposing them to a global-way of thinking. This, in combination with powerful teaching, will enable our students to become successful in achieving their life goals.

Without regret, the rigorous work involved with being an effective teacher can be challenging at times. But when I see those eyes light up upon learning something new or hearing their words, “Oh, now I get it!” make the long hours a minute passing thought. As I strive to uphold my responsibility to be the best teacher that I can be, I think of the Japanese proverb, “Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.” This along with the challenges and successes of my students, both past and present, continue to inspire me on a daily basis.
