RUN FOR THE GREEN
10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
March 17, 2017

In March of 2007 Alice Birney Elementary students ran their first health and wellness run. Extremely successful even in its first year, this fundraiser has played a vital role in supporting our International Baccalaureate program over the years and continues to be our biggest fundraiser. We invite you to join the fun as we celebrate health and wellness, 10 years of community involvement, and St. Patrick’s Day!

*Please be sure to put your student’s name in the “special instructions” section so they can get credit*

Students will receive an informational packet when we kick off the fundraiser on January 31st. They will then have 6 weeks to connect with family and friends to gain support for their running efforts and for their school. They will have the opportunity to earn recognition for their efforts as well as prizes donated by businesses both locally and nationwide. The real fun happens on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, when we will be running laps, listening to music and embracing the “Green” spirit in full.

We encourage families to make this fundraiser their own by representing Birney in their neighborhoods and setting up lemonade stands, bake sales, or coming up with something new. We even have an official lemonade stand sign you can print and use! Get creative and then send your pictures to alicebirneyfriends@gmail.com and we will share on campus and online!

Through the years, the “green” in Run for the Green has come to represent much more than its St. Patrick’s Day origins. Our International Baccalaureate program provides our students with an award-winning garden program that is the only one of its kind in the district. It also gives our kids enrichment in art and Spanish. These elements are tied in to a well-crafted curriculum that flows into every part of their day, teaching them to reach their highest potential. Being a Title 1 school with a very diverse spectrum of students, the IB Program provides educational opportunities that many students may not otherwise receive.

We appreciate all support be it through volunteering your time, spreading the word to your community, or financial support. This year we hope to raise $28,000 as part of our $101,000 goal.
